Students are required to supply CSA safety boots, welding gloves, and welding caps. Welding helmet will be provided by TRU.
Seabird Welding Foundation Program
This 24-week welding program is designed to provide foundations training for welding. Participants will prepare for entry level positions as apprentice welders in most sectors of the economy, including manufacturing, construction, transportation, resource extraction and resource development. Students engage in a variety of classroom and shop activities. In the classroom, they learn theoretical principals of welding. Shop sessions provide the hands-on opportunity to learn processes and master practical welding skills. The welding program will occur at Seabird Island utilizing Thompson Rivers University mobile welding unit.
Program open to all Stolo communities members and all off reserve aboriginal people in the region.

General Requirements
- Good command of English language is recommended
- Good vision, unimpaired hearing, respiration and good health in general are recommended
Educational Requirements
- Minimum grade 10, however, grade 12 is recommended
- Successful completion of an Accuplacer

Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG)

Come join the fun! Grab a friend and join this general interest class to learn MIG welding. Participants will let their creative-selves flare welding, heat bending, and metal twisting! Create your own Christmas decorations, horseshoe art, wall decor, or yard and garden art.
Course Fee: $525
Introduction to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG)
(XWLD 0530) $550
TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) is a welding process where a tungsten electrode carries an electric arc to the metal while an envelope of inert gas (argon) surrounds and protects it. TIG is used to welding all metals including copper, titanium, brass, aluminum and yes, even cast iron. TIG can also be used to weld around tricky or curved joints.
Welder Testing and Upgrading
Registration:
All testers must pre-register for welder testing and upgrading.
Employer authorization is reqiured in advance for employees they sponsor.
Welding testing payments are due at time of booking. Refunds will only be issued with one week cancellation notice.
Instructions for Testing Day
- Testers are required to report at 7:00 am in the Welding Shop in the School of Trades and Technology building
- Weekday parking is $5 per day in a general lot. Kindly ensure you are not parked in a gated, reserved, or premium lot.
- Must bring with you:
- Welding log book
- Personal protective equipment
- Required tools
ASME Tests for BC Safety Authority
ASME PWP# 1- 9 - XWLD 0700
Fee: $400.00 (each)
Requirements: Must have minimum Level “B” stamp in log book

ASME PWP# 9A and 10 - XWLD 0710
Fee: $300.00 (each)
Requirements: Must have minimum Level “B” stamp in log book
ASME PWP # 11 - XWLD 0702
Fee: $500.00 (each)
Requirements: Must have minimum Level “B” stamp in log book
ASME Company Procedure - XWLD 0704

ASME -BCP-100 Welder Performance Qualification Testing XWLD 0706
Fee: $500.00

Requirements: Welders are required to bring their logbook on testing day.
The BCP-100 Certificate allows BC and Alberta Welders to work in either province.
Eligibility: In order to be eligible to take a BCP-100 Pressure Welder Certificate of Qualification examination in the Province of British Columbia, a candidate must:
- Hold a Journeyman Welder Certificate of Qualification issued by the Industry Training Authority of British Columbia, or
- Hold a Registered “A” or “B” Level Certificate of Qualification for Welding issued by the Industry Training Authority of British Columbia, or,
- Hold a Journeyman Welder’s Interprovincial Standards Red Seal Certification from another jurisdiction.
The BCP-100 is an inter-provincial welding procedure that is recognized in both BC and Alberta (equivalent to Albert “B”). A BC Safety Authority Safety Officer for Boiler & Pressure Vessels will govern the testing.

Testing dates
Testing is held Fridays on the following dates. To book your testing date, please call 250-828-5106. Please note, your test needs to be booked and paid for in advance. Any weld test cancellations must be seven days prior to your test date.

- One-week booth rental $300
